Naturopathy and infertility

Naturopathy is a holistic approach to health recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a ‘traditional medicine’ which complements conventional medicine.
Its origins date back to Ancient Greece, and over time it has drawn on a variety of ancient medicines (Sumerian, Chinese, Indian, Ancient Egyptian, Arabic, Celtic, etc.), and evolved with current scientific knowledge.
Like many alternative medicines, naturopathy is based on the whole person and achieving harmony of vital energy.
Naturopathy uses the self-healing mechanisms that we all possess. It works by activating, strengthening and stimulating these mechanisms using a range of gentle, non-invasive methods, such as phytotherapy, stress management techniques, aromatherapy, nutrition, homeopathy, physical and breathing exercises, reflexology, the use of natural nutritional supplements, hydrotherapy, etc.
The naturopath will begin by conducting a vitality assessment, which will enable them to understand the patient, their individual characteristics, their lifestyle constraints and, above all, anticipate any difficulties.
Based on this vitality assessment, the naturopath will offer personalised advice, treatments, to improve the patient’s lifestyle and thus their day-to-day health, while taking into account their daily habits.
These treatments will include, among other things, advice on prevention, nutrition, relaxation and stress management, and even physical exercise.
In the context of infertility, the naturopath can help women to correct hormonal imbalances and irregular cycles, and provide additional help in the treatment of endometriosis. For men, the naturopath can help improve sperm quality.
By optimising nutrition, the basis of good health, it can increase a woman's chances of getting pregnant.
Similarly, by helping to eliminate stress, chances of success with IVF treatments will increase.
Certain medicinal plants suggested by the naturopath may promote fertility (beware of interaction with certain medicines).
Some naturopaths use acupressure (finger acupuncture, without needles) to stimulate fertility in both men and women.
Consulting a naturopath does not replace conventional medical treatment for infertility. It is additional help.
