General information on egg donation abroad

Egg donation is a method of medically assisted reproduction that is widely used in many countries due to the excellent results obtained.
In Europe egg donation is legal in most countries.
Egg donations treatments are more common in the following European countries:

- Czech Republic
- Greece
- Portugal
- Cyprus
- Latvia
- Belgium
- Slovakia
For various reasons:
- greater social acceptance of gamete donation,
- large number of female donors because of the tradition of giving and the sense of altruism involved,
- general altruism of the population with regard to infertility,
- large number of ART clinics / number of inhabitants,
- legislation making gamete donation easier for both donors and recipients,
- significant medical expertise in ART,
- significant budgets devoted to infertility research and treatment by the private medical sector.
There are legal disparities in regulations between European countries on the following: maximum donor’s and recipient’s age, family situation to benefit from a donation, anonymity, double donation, maximum number of embryos transferred, sexual orientation and so on.
Health and hygiene rules in the European Union regarding ART and medical activities must be respected by all healthcare providers in countries belonging to the European Union. The same applies to the rules and standards governing the premises used for medical care.
Outside Europe
Outside Europe donation is also practised in many countries. Legislation, conditions of access to donation, recruitment of donors, medical and health conditions and ethical considerations may differ greatly from country to country.
